Appreciating Fathers

Don't forget to sign up for the trip to Bald River Falls, which is this Wednesday 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Bring an appropriate swimsuit!

Solomon was a pretty smart guy. When God asked him what he wanted above all else, Solomon said wisdom. GOOD ANSWER! Thankfully for us, Solomon compiled his words of wisdom into the books Ecclesiastes, Song of Solomon, (most of) Proverbs and two Psalms.

Now read the following verses from Proverbs:

Proverbs 3: 1-2 &11-12, 23

3: 1 My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart,
3: 2 for they will prolong your life many years and bring you peace and prosperity.
3: 11 My son, do not despise the LORD’s discipline, and do not resent his rebuke,

3: 12 because the LORD disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in.
3: 23 Then you will go on your way in safety, and your foot will not stumble.

Do you remember an instance when your father corrected you? Do you have chores that dad constantly bugs you to do? Well, he does it because he loves you.

Proverbs 3 can be used as a parallel for how fathers instruct us. Fathers teach us lessons because we need training for life. They correct us so when they aren’t around we will still know how to change a tire the right way.

SECRET DISCLAIMER! Remember that your dad is human too, which means he’s going to make mistakes. He does the best he can—which is pretty awesome most of the time, I bet.

What was the most valuable lesson your dad taught you, whether he realized it or not? You might tell him thank you as part of his Father’s Day present.
